GotoDBA Conferences Help Me Decide on Presentation Topics for 2020

Help Me Decide on Presentation Topics for 2020

As you know I love going to conferences, and next year won’t be any different. There are a few conferences that I’d like to attend and speak at next year (if they accept my sessions). My current presentations (you can find them here) are good and still relevant (and maybe I’ll still submit some of them), but I presented them quite a lot lately in conferences and I won’t submit sessions that I’ve already presented at a specific conference. So I decided it is time to update my session list, and for that I’d like to get your input.

Here are a few topics that I thought about, I would really appreciate your opinion on them (or suggest others, as if you read my blog you know what topics I can talk about):

Oracle Listener

Posts about the listener are some of the most popular ones in my blog. In the past I wrote about how the listener works, how to bypass the listener and a couple more. That’s why I think it might be a good topic for a presentation.

Patching a Database

There are many sessions about upgrading and migrating databases, but not so many about patching (especially in complex environments). I think I have enough material about this to fill a full session (like installing PSU in RAC and DST patch with ADG).

Data Guard Explained

One of my recent posts about Data Guard quickly became my most viewed post on the blog. I can create a presentation where I explain (and maybe show) how Data Guard works.

Analytic Functions

Development related topics are important, as some of the infrastructure is moving to the cloud, but writing code and applications is still far from becoming automated. At KScope19 I talked with Erik Van Roon and we both thought that analytic functions are so cool and some people still don’t know enough about them. You can also check out this post.

Interviewing a DBA

I also wrote a post about that in the past, and as a non-technical topic (maybe part of personal growth track) I think I can build quite an interesting session about this.

What do You Think?

Now it’s your time to respond. What do you think? Would you come to one (or more) of the sessions above? Which one(s) sounds the most interesting? Please comment below, send me a message, a tweet, or anything else that works for you and help me plan my next year’s submissions. Thanks!

  1. Hi Liron,

if I could choose, it would be either Data Guard or Patching. Out of many others the two are critical for security and running a serious production databases. I am relatively unexperienced in those topics and would like to hear more about them! 🙂
Great thing to ask the community!! Keep up Your good work!!

    1. Hi Jonas,
Thanks for the comment, I really appreciate it!
I will keep updating the blog with what I’ve decided to do (and if I get accepted to present at conferences of course).

  2. Hi Liron, all those are really good ideas.
“Interviewing a DBA” is a really good idea.
“Oracle Listener” as well as I learned new things when you published this blog post.
    Cheers,
    Franck.
