Upcoming Conferences

Good news came from ODTUG this week about KScope20 in Boston, MA. Since it’s not the only conference I’m going to present in, I decided to write a short post with the sessions I’m going to present in the next few months (as long as COVID-19 won’t change any of the plans):

March 16-17: UTOUG Training Days, Salt Lake City, UT, USA

This one is coming fast. I’ll be there in less than 2 weeks for the 2nd time. Last year I loved this conference as it’s not too big, but not too small as well. I also met great people so I decided to submit papers again this year.

I’ve got 3 sessions accepted this time:

  • Basic Datatypes – Deep Understanding
  • Look Inside the Locking Mechanism
  • Better designed than sorry – let’s design our DB schema
  • I’ll also be part of the DBA panel on Tuesday

April 30-May 1: BCOUG TechDay, Vancouver, BC, Canada

I’m not planning to speak at this conference, but as BCOUG president, I couldn’t leave this one out. This conference will be 1.5 days this year and we’ll publish the full agenda soon. If you are around Vancouver (or even if you’re not but would like to come to this amazing city), we’ll love to see you here.

May 13-14: GLOC, Cleveland, OH, USA

This is the first time I submitted papers to GLOC (Great Lakes Oracle Conference). I’ve heard a lot about it (and was “nudged” a few time by Joel Kallman to submit) and decided that this would be the year.

I was very happy to get accepted with 2 sessions:

  • Creating Order in the Database Patching Chaos
  • Better Designed Than Sorry – Let’s Design Our DB Schema

June 28-July 2: KScope, Boston, MA, USA

Last conference so far is Kscope. This is one of the largest and most awesome conferences in the area and I was so happy to get the mail with 3 accepted sessions:

  • Creating Order in the Database Patching Chaos
  • Finding the Right Fit – Interviewing and Being Interviewed in the DB World
  • With or Without Analytic Functions – Writing SQL in Real World Scenarios

This year I will also have 2 new experiences among these sessions. This will be the first time I’ll present a non-technical session (“finding the right fit” session is a soft skill one and I’m very excited about it, I really hope it will be interesting and fun). The other experience is co-presenting for the first time ever. This idea came up at KScope last year when I talked with Erik van Roon and Kim Berg Hansen and when it was time to submit papers, me and Eric decided to try to have a session together (the one about analytic functions). Erik is really a great guy (despite what he says) and I’m looking forward to this presentation.

Summary

That’s it, 4 conferences in 5 months is going to be busy (especially when 3 of these sessions are brand new), but I love conferences, I love presenting, and I can’t wait to meet old and few friends.

Hope to see you in one of these conferences!

  1. That’s a great set of conferences! I am presenting at GLOC and that will be my first visit to that conference, but it looks like a great event. Make sure you have all your frequent-flier numbers ready for your flights and hotels. Make the most of your travel!
