I can’t believe I’m writing another post like this…
After the passing of Joel in May, last week our community got bad news again: Pieter Van Puymbroeck passed away. Pieter was an Ex Oracle Ace Director and the Data Guard PM at Oracle in the last 1.5 years.
I have met Pieter only a few times in the past, and I remember him as a great guy who always had a smile on his face. He became the DG PM just before this COVID mess so our main way to interact was through twitter. Whenever I twitted something that was even remotely related to him, he always responded quickly, sent DMs to get more information, and made sure everything was clear on both sides. He was always super helpful and very professional.
It seems like a sign that last week a client contacted me with a strange standby issue. I managed to reproduce it locally and sent Pieter a DM on Thursday. I expected to hear back on Friday (because of the time difference), but didn’t. I thought he might be busy or away. Sadly, on Friday people from our community delivered the news and we were all shocked.
I will write a couple of posts about DG and the problem I encounter soon, and I’ll dedicate them to Pieter.
Here are some links to other posts that were written by community members, friends, and colleagues of Pieter:

Godspeed, Pieter van Puymbroeck (Martin Klier)
May he rest in peace.
